Clinical Counselling & Trauma Processing

Brainspotting and nervous system-informed trauma therapy offers a gentle yet powerful pathway to healing by working directly with the brain and nervous system. Brainspotting is a focused, evidence-based modality that uses eye positions “brainspots” to access and process unresolved trauma held in the subcortical brain. With your gaze oriented toward the spot that connects to stored emotional or bodily activation, the brain naturally begins to unwind and release what has been stuck beneath awareness.

Through attuned support and polyvagal-informed guidance, we create a safe, grounded space where your nervous system feels steady enough to move out of survival patterns and into deeper regulation. This integrative approach combines precise neurobiological processing, mindful presence, and compassionate co-regulation to ease tension, expand emotional capacity, and support meaningful shifts. Together, these techniques help a renewed sense of inner balance, connection, and wholeness.

Important Considerations for Medical Qigong

  • Medical Qigong is an energetic wellness practice intended to support vitality and self-regulation. It is not a form of medical care, diagnosis, or treatment.

  • MQG is not regulated in British Columbia and does not replace care from licensed professionals such as physicians, psychologists, physiotherapists, or other healthcare providers. If you have any health concerns, you are encouraged to consult with your primary care provider or relevant specialist.

  • Within this work, I am offering support as a Medical Qigong practitioner, focusing on energetic balance and holistic well-being, alongside—rather than in place of—your existing care.

Medical Qigong & Energy Work

What is Medical Qigong?

Medical Qigong (MQG) is a gentle, energy-based practice that supports your overall vitality, balance, and well-being. Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, it works with the body’s natural energy system (Qi) to encourage flow, regulation, and restoration across physical, emotional, and energetic levels.

At Nurturing Roots, sessions may be offered in person or remotely and are tailored to your individual needs.

What a session may look like

Individual sessions typically begin with a brief, seated conversation to explore your intentions and areas of focus. You will then lie comfortably, fully clothed, on a massage table (with shoes removed) and covered with a sheet and blanket. Through gentle Qi emission techniques, I work within your energetic field to support balance and flow. This may include light touch (through clothing or on exposed skin), always discussed with your informed consent. You are encouraged to communicate at any time if something feels uncomfortable so adjustments can be made.

Movement-based sessions (individual or group) involve guided, gentle practices that combine breath, visualization, and intentional movement. These are designed to support nervous system regulation, improve energy flow, and deepen connection with your body. All movements can be adapted to your comfort level.

During and after sessions

Medical Qigong can create noticeable energetic shifts. You may experience physical sensations, emotional release, or changes in awareness during or after a session. At times, previously held emotions may surface. This is a natural part of the process, and you are always supported in moving at a pace that feels safe for you.

Occasionally, some individuals may feel light-headed after a session. You are welcome to rest and take your time before leaving. If any discomfort arises after your session, it is important to seek support from an appropriate licensed healthcare provider and to share this at your next visit.

  • Somatic therapy helps us connect with the body’s wisdom, noticing where tension, trauma, or stress is stored. By gently tuning into physical sensations, we can release old patterns and restore a sense of safety and ease in the body. This approach supports healing from trauma, chronic stress, and emotional overwhelm.

  • These approaches help us “befriend” and be curious about how our nervous system and early relationship patterns influence our sense of safety and connection. By exploring these patterns we can learn from your body and nervous system how to cultivate a greater sense of peace, joy, empowerment, self-compassion, and secure connections with ourselves and others.

  • Attachment theory helps us understand how early relationships shape the way we connect, trust, and feel safe with others. These patterns also influence our nervous system, affecting how we respond to stress and feel regulated. By exploring attachment, we can develop healthier ways of relating, strengthen emotional bonds, and cultivate greater calm, safety, and resilience in both body and mind.

  • IFS, or “parts work,” helps us recognize and understand different parts of ourselves—our protective parts, wounded parts, and our core self. This work fosters self-awareness, compassion, and integration, so we feel less stuck in self-judgment or inner conflict.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) are evidence-based approaches that help you understand and navigate your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. CBT focuses on identifying unhelpful patterns and learning practical skills to shift them, offering tools for managing anxiety, low mood, stress, and everyday challenges. DBT supports people who feel emotions intensely by blending acceptance with change, teaching mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and communication skills. Together, these approaches help you build coping strategies, reduce overwhelm, and move toward a more balanced and empowered life.

  • EFT for individuals helps you connect with your emotions and understand your patterns in relationships. By exploring underlying needs and feelings, you can develop self-compassion, build emotional resilience, and create healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. This approach supports greater emotional security and inner balance.

  • Narrative therapy helps you explore the stories you tell about yourself and your life. Through creative reflection and meaning-making, you can reframe experiences, challenge limiting beliefs, and actively rewrite your story. This approach supports self-discovery, personal growth, and a stronger, more empowered sense of identity.

  • Brainspotting helps you access and release deep-seated emotions held in the brain and body with minimal talking. By using specific eye positions, it engages the nervous system and the body’s innate wisdom, allowing trauma, stress, and unresolved experiences to be processed naturally. The work continues even after the session ends, supporting ongoing healing. It also provides empowering tools to help you regulate emotions, feel grounded, and navigate day-to-day life with greater confidence and resilience.

  • Energy psychology gently works with your body’s subtle energy systems to help release stuck emotions, trauma, and stress. By tuning into these energy patterns, it supports nervous system regulation and restores a sense of balance. This approach empowers you to connect with your own inner wisdom, navigate emotions with ease, and move through life with greater confidence, calm, and emotional freedom.
