Medical Qigong
What is Medical Qigong?
Medical Qigong (MQG) is a gentle, energy-based practice that supports your overall vitality, balance, and well-being. Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, it works with the body’s natural energy system (Qi) to encourage flow, regulation, and restoration across physical, emotional, and energetic levels.
At Nurturing Roots, sessions may be offered in person or remotely and are tailored to your individual needs.
What a session may look like
Individual sessions typically begin with a brief, seated conversation to explore your intentions and areas of focus. You will then lie comfortably, fully clothed, on a massage table (with shoes removed) and covered with a sheet and blanket. Through gentle Qi emission techniques, I work within your energetic field to support balance and flow. This may include light touch (through clothing or on exposed skin), always discussed with your informed consent. You are encouraged to communicate at any time if something feels uncomfortable so adjustments can be made.
Movement-based sessions (individual or group) involve guided, gentle practices that combine breath, visualization, and intentional movement. These are designed to support nervous system regulation, improve energy flow, and deepen connection with your body. All movements can be adapted to your comfort level.
During and after sessions
Medical Qigong can create noticeable energetic shifts. You may experience physical sensations, emotional release, or changes in awareness during or after a session. At times, previously held emotions may surface. This is a natural part of the process, and you are always supported in moving at a pace that feels safe for you.
Occasionally, some individuals may feel light-headed after a session. You are welcome to rest and take your time before leaving. If any discomfort arises after your session, it is important to seek support from an appropriate licensed healthcare provider and to share this at your next visit.
Important Considerations for Medical Qigong
Medical Qigong (MQG) is an energetic wellness practice intended to support relaxation and nervous system regulation. MQG is not a form of clinical counselling, medical care, diagnosis, or treatment.
MQG is not regulated in British Columbia and does not replace care from licensed professionals such as physicians, psychologists, physiotherapists, clinical counsellor, or other healthcare providers. If you have any health concerns, you are encouraged to consult with your primary care provider or relevant specialist.
Within this work, Alyssa is offering support as a Medical Qigong practitioner, focusing on energetic balance and holistic well-being, alongside, rather than in place of, your existing care.
